We’re committed to Recovery and Rehabilitation

Physical therapy at Kingston Center isn’t about sterile work-outs in a gym full of futuristic-looking equipment. It’s about people living life.

Our goal is to help our short-term residents recover from surgery, stroke, or other medical conditions in a way that prepares them to return home and resume a fully independent life. That means being able to successfully meet all of the activities of daily living that most of us take for granted. Things like:

  • Descending or ascending a staircase
  • Walking across the uneven ground
  • Picking something up from the ground
  • Getting in and out bed and dressing and caring oneself.

These skills are best taught in the environment where they happen, so our therapy team works one-on-one with each resident in real-life settings - -their bedrooms, the bathroom, the kitchen, indoors, outdoors even the laundry room. When you leave Kingston Center, we all know you’re ready to meet life’s big, and little challenges, with success.

For our long term residents, our goal is to help them stay as healthy and independent as possible. There’s lots going on at Kingston Center and we want everyone to be able to take part in life here as fully as possible. We work on things like balance, mobility, range of motion and muscle tone. And we do it in real life settings, sometimes working therapy right into an organized group activity. It keeps it fun and meaningful and lets individual residents draw encouragement from each other. The rewards of therapy, even when it’s difficult, are priceless and we make every effort to see that therapy sessions are productive yet enjoyable.

Therapy

We never lose sight of the fact that this facility is the home of nearly 50 people, little different from any other cozy neighborhood in Kingston.

We encourage residents to decorate their rooms and to make their space an expression of themselves. And we do our part to make everyone’s life as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Both short and long-term residents enjoy all of this, and more:

Therapeutic recreation, which is both enjoyable and engaging. Developed collaboratively between our therapy and recreation teams, it furthers physical and occupational therapy and makes it a fun part of daily life here. A full time activities staff. And we think they are one of the best. Not only are our residents busy with activities, hobbies, shows and outings but Kingston Center is a great place for family members and community residents alike to attend special events. Beautifully landscaped grounds and two breezy, comfortable furnished patios are perfect for summer barbecues, tossing a ball to our visiting therapy pets, or just enjoying the fresh air. And of course we provide toiletries and bath amenities, complimentary laundry service, and cable television for each resident.
