Washington Center – Grace Neely is 100 years young

January 7, 2016

Grace Neely, a resident of the Argyle Center for Independent Living at Washington Center, celebrated her 100th birthday with us in April 2015. Many family members and friends came to join her at a party thrown by the staff of the Argyle Center, arriving to flowers, balloons and a buffet of Grace’s favorite dishes. All of Graces friends and other residents at the Argyle Center joined in the fun. A few days after the party, Grace still had a room full of balloons and couldn’t possibly keep them all. So to cap off her birthday celebration, the staff at Argyle Center gathered several balloons, tied a card onto the end of the string, and released them to the sky. The note on the card asked whomever found the balloons when the eventually landed to call us and let us know how far they traveled. Only about 3 hours later a call was received from a woman in New Hampshire. She had found Grace’s balloons in a field behind her home while out for a walk with her son. Her son wrote Grace a lovely letter wishing her a happy birthday. When Grace looked at the return address on the envelope she started to laugh. The town in which the balloons landed was only a few short miles from where she was married!
