“Being the administrator here at Holliswood is my dream job. It combines my two professional passions – elder care and business operations. Let’s face it, the team that delivers the care in a skilled nursing facility are the CNAs, LPNs, RNs, housekeepers, dieticians and therapists. It’s not the administrator. But that’s where elder care and business meet. As the administrator, I get to create the environment that allows all that good care to take place, and lets our team flourish. I get to interact with residents and their families, to bring comfort and relief to people when they need it most. That’s what I love doing”.
Zevi is always reminding his team about why they got into healthcare in the first place; that they were called to this career by a shared desire to help others. And their common passion shows in all they do at Holliswood. When you come to visit us, stop in and meet Zevi. His door is always open, to residents, family members, friends and staff. And that’s just one more reason why we’re so happy to have him leading the Holliswood team.
With 314 residents and a nursing staff of more than 200 skilled professionals, Ms. Pascal has her hands full. What makes her so much more amazing is that she knows every staffer personally and what makes them tick, and that she knows all of our residents by name, what they like and don’t like, and how to make each of their lives a little brighter. In her 21 years of experience she has seen it all, yet comes to the Holliswood Center every day eager to learn something new. And that something is usually learning about our newest residents. “I love to help people. I guess I’m a born care-giver, because it never gets old for me, it never gets tiresome. Just the opposite – it energizes me!” That probably helps to explain the Medicaid.gov coveted 5-Star rating that the Holliswood Center has earned. If you haven’t met yet, seek Ms. Pascal out next time you visit. She loves to meet new people.
Cynthia is the heart and soul of the therapy department here at Holliswood Center, and not just because she’s the boss. It’s because she infuses an attitude of success through fun and that makes all the difference. “Therapy isn’t always easy. Our staff works so hard, and so do our residents, but I try to make sure than even while everyone is working hard, they are having a good time, too. Enjoying therapy makes everyone bring their best to every session. When you enjoy it, you get more out of it.“ That would explain the sounds of laughter, joking, and an all-around good time that can be heard all the way into the hallway outside of the therapy suite at Holliswood. And it also explains their exemplary record of successful rehabs.
People come to their professional callings in all sorts of ways. But Regina took a very special path.
Over 12 years ago, she was employed as the receptionist at Holliswood Center. During that time, she was attending college at night as a sociology major. During the day, residents would were often come and talk to her, share their complaints with her, and ask for advice. She wished she could do more, which is why she decided to change her major to social work.
She earned my degree and left Holliswood to work in skilled nursing, as a high school counselor, and as a counselor at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. With experience and a newly earned Master’s Degree in social work, she went back to working in a skilled nursing facility. At a large facility with very little support or structure, she learned “on the job” just how to run a social work department dedicated to the needs of the elderly needing long term care, and those dealing with short-term rehabilitation issues”
With a background like that, we were eager to have Regina return to the Holliswood family. But what sealed it for us – and what will seal it for you – isn’t just that she’s a top-notch social worker who gets it all done. It’s the attitude she gets it done with. “I like to make people laugh, because I like to laugh. And, I’m a good listener.”
When you visit us at Holliswood Center, look around for Regina, say hello, and share a laugh. It will be the first of many.
