Nursing Home Week at Deptford
Staff at Deptford Center, the large and highly respectable 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility in Deptford, New Jersey, recognized National Nursing Home Week 2021 (May 9 – May 16) with a fun week of endless activities for their residents and fellow colleagues. It was a time to shine after a quiet and upside down 2020 and the Recreation team rose to the occasion doing just that.
Each day of Nursing Home Week was marked by a cruise ship destination, which one was of historical value, followed with an exciting Hawaiian luau. Paige Doumenis, ADC, Director of Guest Services/ Recreation designed the week with her staff and was able to get residents and staff to “play the part” of each cruise line port such as Alaskan fishing, Daytona Beach, and the Titanic maiden voyage to New York of 1912.
“After a very stressful year, recognizing National Nursing Home Week like this is just what the doctor ordered,” said Doumenis. “The residents had so much fun and the staff had such a blast, we almost forgot about 2020 for a little while. We miss those that we have lost but we cannot forget about all of our survivors.”
Paige described each destination with such emotional punch and residents would get excited. This is what she said about Daytona Beach:
“Cruising to Port number 2! Daytona Beach for Spring Break!!! Sun hat and glasses day! After a scorching day at the beach we cooled off w fresh Mimosas!! A very refreshing treat after Beach Ball Volley !!! After, Recreation took a much needed mimosa break after a long fun day at the beach !”
