Slate Valley Center Celebrates World Smile Day

Every year, the first Friday in October is World Smile Day and this year in 2021, it happened to fall on October 1st. Like last year, World Smile Day may have carried more weight, taking into account the outbreak of Covid, politics dividing people, and civil rights demonstrations throughout the country and the world.

At the intimate 88-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility on State Route 40 in Granville, Slate Valley Center, the facility asked the residents to hold up posters about what makes them smile these days. A variety of answers were seen such as “living life” to “playing my favorite music instrument”, one stood out at being so beautiful, simply “my children”. That poster was created by 85-year-old Bronx-native Richard Luciano who’s children moved him to Slate Valley Center for a number of reasons, including the biggest one which is to be near their dad. What’s more beautiful than that?
