In August of 2022, then-28-year-old Briant Kollock of Millville, New Jersey, was accidentally shot which left him paralyzed. After a difficult hospitalization stay at Atlantic Regional Medical Center, and then trying to recuperate at home under his mother’s care, it was time that on August 30, 2022, Mr. Kollock was admitted to Hammonton Center.
After a year of being at the 240-bed skilled nursing facility, Mr. Kollock agreed to therapy, with the idea of being discharged home. Later, Briant was assigned to Hammonton Center Physical Therapist, Daniel Oliver, and they have worked hard together since September 5, 2023. Mr. Kollock was totally dependent on all of his care as well as physical tasks when he started his physical therapy. As he started his program with PT, he developed a trusting and positive relationship with Mr. Oliver and he has become more determined than ever to reach his goal. This has been seen in his more positive demeanor, and he enters the gym every day with a bright smile and always says hello to everyone he encounters.
Currently, Mr. Kollock has progressed greatly as he only now requires Contact Guard Assistance with Minimal Assistance for bed mobility and transfers but is independent with wheelchair mobility. This progress answers to why Hammonton Center, almost 86 percent of short-term residents have improved their ability to move around on their own, a number that’s almost two percentage points higher than the New Jersey state average and nearly ten percent higher than the national average. Congratulations Briant! SNJ Today Newspaper
