Visitors to Steuben Center always start by marveling at what a wonderful place it is, and John is quick to echo that sentiment. After a quick tour, no one disagrees – Steuben Center is a wonderful place. “I’ve been an administrator for close to thirty years. I’ve learned all the things you need to do to make a facility great, and all the things you need to avoid. At Steuben Center we have a tremendously caring staff, a wonderful facility and a world class rehabilitation team, so the job here is all about keeping up the good work!” John took over Steuben Center in October of 2015, but he’s no stranger to the facility. Before Steuben joined the Centers family, when it was a county-owned home, John was the administrator. Needless to say, he came back to a very different facility than the one he left, and we’re all glad he’s back home!
“The Steuben Center community is a beautiful family. It’s not a place where I go to work; it’s an extension of my own family.” No wonder Jessica’s team, her residents, and their families all love to see her in the building. The comfort and care she provides, and the way in which she mentors her team, are truly something special. Jessica is a home-grown nurse, having earned her first nursing degree in 2006 from Genesee Community College and her Bachelor’s degree from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester. “I went to school at my Grandma’s alma mater, I got to marry the love of my life, I have two fantastic children and I’m a pretty good crochet artist! All that, and I have a dream job, too!” And we have a dream Director of Nursing. Everyone wins!
Anthony oversees one of the finest therapy facilities in western New York. Boasting some of the most sophisticated equipment, including a HydroWorx therapy pool and a staff second to none, Anthony is truly making the Steuben Centers physical, occupational and speech therapy department one of the best in the state. “We’re the only facility in the whole Centers family that takes in non-resident patients, and that adds a special dimension. Our therapy team gets to see a broader range of injuries and the more challenging the work is, the more we all improve and the better we can serve everyone” says Anthony. A life-long resident of the Finger Lakes region, his deep desire to help those in need led him to physical therapy, and the reputation of the Steuben Center led him here. “Once I got here, I knew I’d never want to work anywhere else”. Lucky for all of us!
For Deb, being a social worker is not just a weekday job that she performs here at Steuben Center. It’s who she is. “I graduated from Alfred State College with my Bachelor’s degree in Human Service Management and I’ve been doing what I love ever since.” In spite of the hectic pace that Deb keeps as the mother of 2 young and very active boys, she and her husband still find time to be active in the community, but her “second family,” the one here at Steuben Center, is where her heart is. She knows every resident and most of their families, and even some of our new, incoming residents are people that Deb has already known through her community activities. Can you think of a better choice to lead our social services team? We can’t either.
