Suffolk Center resident reaches birthday milestone

Virginia “Ginny” Brinker, a fun-loving resident, crossed an incredible milestone on March 21 as she turned 100 years old, celebrating with staff and fellow residents at Suffolk Center Rehabilitation and Nursing in Patchogue.

The celebration came with two surprises: an Elvis impersonator and a window visit from a few of her family members. Brinker has numerous hobbies and loves in her life.

As she continues to watch the Yankees and still cheers them on, growing up she always loved sports, roller skating and ice skating. Brinker was a Girl Scout in her time and then a Girl Scout leader as an adult. She also loves playing the piano, was always a big fan of Elvis Presley, and also loves movies. Brinker was very active in taking care of her home in Central Islip.

She mowed her own lawn, painted the walls, raked all her leaves and loves gardening. Her husband, Karl, was in the U.S. Army and died in World War II overseas in Italy. She attributes living to 100 years old to staying active, praying, and staying close to her family. She is from Central Islip with one daughter, three grandsons, and three great-grandchildren.

In her professional career, Brinker worked as a licensed practical nurse at Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood.
