I suffered a serious stroke. I lost control of my muscles and bodily functions. I couldn’t talk, and parts of my memory were gone. Lying in the hospital bed, the first time I saw my own son, I didn’t recognize him. I came to Brooklyn Center convinced that I was on the road to nowhere. But the staff knew better. They pushed all the right buttons. Don’t you want to run with your son again? Play catch with him?
That hit home. They convinced me that I’d never know what I was capable of until I tried. It wasn’t easy—physical therapy six days a week, as well as speech therapy and occupational therapy—but it was working.
It turned out that Brooklyn Center wasn’t the road to nowhere. It was the road to recovery. The doctors said I might walk in three years. I’ve spent a year at Brooklyn Center, and I’m being discharged—walking out of here. First thing I’m going to do is put on a glove and play catch with my son.
I visited the facility recently and was amazed at how nice it is. The lobby made me think of a five-star hotel, the corridors and rooms are beautiful, and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. The rehab gym is spacious and well-lit, and the equipment is state-of-the-art. It was clear that the residents are well taken care of. I highly recommend Beth Abraham Center and think it is one of the best facilities of its kind in all of New York.
Going to Triboro Center was truly life-changing for me. First, the medical team, led by a wound specialist, addressed my infection. They worked wonders. Speaking of working wonders, the physical and occupational therapists designed a rehab program for me and worked with me six days a week. I can get out of bed—even go upstairs—on my own. I was at Triboro Center for seven weeks—seven weeks that made a world of difference for me!
