Large Donation to Bronx Center
Principal Glorimer Lopez and the 3rd-grade class at New York City Public Schools P.S. 583 on White Plains Road in the Bronx wanted to make a large charitable donation to a Bronx facility or shelter of their choice but wanted to make it special and personal at the same time.
With only a few ideas, eight-year-old student Alex Quinones, the class president at P.S. 583, came up with an idea that was unmatched. He spoke to Principal Lopez about using the funds from a recent bake sale to purchase needed items for the residents. Alex’s mother, Jazmin Escobar, is a long-time employee at Bronx Center’s Recreation Department across the street on Underhill Avenue and Bruckner Blvd. Alex often visits her and the residents there where he does entertainment by dancing for them. It’s a perfect cure for residents’ loneliness and it brings smiles to their faces.
It all came together on the morning of April 18, 2023, when the entire 3rd Grade Class came to the 200-bed skilled nursing facility and made a grand donation of many consumer drug products, as well as blankets and other various merchandise to the delight of all of the residents at Bronx Center.
