Schenectady Pancake Day
National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) comes every year following Mother’s Day and has been since 1967. At Northern Riverview In Haverstraw, each day from May 9th to the 15th, the Recreation team, led by Lori Silverstein had something special every day. May 9th kicked off the week with Latin Day, whereby flags representing the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ecuador, and El Salvador were displayed and the staff enjoyed a delicious lunch of stew, plantains, corn, and salad all prepared internally by the kitchen staff. Salsa and Bachata music played and staff danced. The next day, residents enjoyed a talent show performed by both staff and fellow residents. Performances included a bird chirping, singing, a hula hoop expert, salsa dancers, a guitarist, a disco dancer, and a comedian. Videos can be enjoyed on the facility’s Facebook page. A Chinese food lunch was then enjoyed by all. The game Name That Tune was featured on May 12 where prizes were given out. The staff then enjoyed ices and ice cream, courtesy of Kangaroo Swirls who had a truck parked outside of the facility in the parking lot off of Route 9W.
