Centers Health Care and American Heart Association collaborate with Bronx hospitals to fight hypertension
A major top-notch health Bronx-focused collaborative concentrating on heart health and hypertension took place at the Centers Health Care offices on White Plains Road near 242nd Street yesterday as leadership from the New York City Chapter of the American Heart Association, along with leadership from the city’s top nursing home network, Centers Health Care, brought together top professionals and leaders from the city and organizations from all over the Bronx in a beginning effort to make the Bronx community’s heart healthier.
Leaders and physicians from the New York City Health Department, New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, Montefiore Hospital, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, and JACOBI HOSPITAL..BRONX N.Y., SBH Health System, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Damian Family Care Center, Morris Heights Health Center, NYC Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness, as well as District 46 Councilwoman Mercedes Narcisse via Zoom, were there to discuss topics including the importance of blood pressure monitors and cuffs, eating healthy, smoking prevention, hypertension reduction, and incentives to make sure patients follow-up on cardiology appointments.
The bottom line is that the Bronx ranks 62 out of New York State’s 62 counties regarding heart health, so this is the first step of this major Bronx collaborative. The next collaborative meeting in late July will discuss more issues about marketing and bringing the best heart-healthy choices to underserved Bronx neighborhoods.
