Corning Center Group Activities Are Back!

On July 9, 2021, Corning Center, the 120-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility on East First Avenue announced that it had been 476 days since the facility was able to have a group activities active again.… until today. On that day, the staff and residents gathered, played bingo with veteran activities aid and energetic number caller Randy Dann, and the coffee socials led to residents making new friends.

It’s really so great to see everyone coming together again,” said Megan Wright, Recreation Director at Corning Center. “More and more are coming, such as more group outside events like BBQ’s, movies and outside live music. We still have at least two months of warm weather left and we will hope to get as much of that as possible.”

Time and the vaccine are definitely the healers here and what’s more is that live music also returned with George Mann and Richard Pensyl, the two main musical headliners in the Corning region. On July 18, the facility all worshipped together for the first time as well. Lamont Allington in Housekeeping volunteered his time on his day off and the residents enjoyed singing hymns together.

Resident council meetings are also returning in full swing and, according to leadership at Corning Center, within two weeks all residents but three will be fully vaccinated.

As seen on Rochester Patch.
