Food services at Amsterdam Nursing Home go above and beyond with 1st summer BBQ

The frontline workers at Amsterdam Nursing home at 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue were recently treated to the first staff BBQ since prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The food services team fully excelled with both quality and quantity of their home-cooked summer foods. From chicken and rice to veggies, burgers and ribs, the food services department, led by both Director Richard Kirkland and Chef Anthony Graham, was outstanding according to Administrator Shlomo Katz. Live music by Gene Matera added to the festive atmosphere.

“The food was so great, my food service folks really outdid themselves,” said Katz. “Being this is our first summer BBQ since before the pandemic, the staff had such a great time. This is how it should be, we are all together, enjoying each other’s company right at the start of the summer’s biggest holiday. Thank you for your hard work.”

The Recreation Department, led by Jay Virella, helped organize the BBQ and supplied July 4th decorations and table settings, and the smiles on the faces of the staff, who worked so hard to keep the residents and their fellow colleagues safe over the past 15 to 16 months, said it all and they enjoyed a great BBQ outing.
