Holliswood PT of the Month

A big congratulations go out to Holliswood Center Physical Therapist Hakeem Olabinjo, as he was selected as PT of the Month for October, which is Physical Therapy Month. October 2023. Mr. Olabinjo, who is part of the Sigma Rehab, Centers Health Care team, is highly well-loved by both the residents he treats and the colleagues he works with every day at the 314-bed skilled nursing facility on Woodhull Avenue in Jamaica.

He has been at the Center since November 2015 and this year he moved up from physical therapist assistant (PTA) to physical therapist. Mr. Olabinjo says the most gratifying parts of his job include seeing residents happy and progress, hearing them strive to achieve to get better, and collaborating with his fellow therapists. The facility’s Director of Rehabilitation Janice Salcedo is proud of Hakeem.

"I believe Hakeem is the true example of the word perseverance,” says Salcedo. “He worked very hard to go from PTA to PT and he didn’t let any obstacles get in his way. Hakeem never gives up because he’s an incredibly hard worker, so we are lucky to have him. He listens to the residents, so they enjoy working with him. It shows because they make good progress with their goals."

Care. Support. Positive Outcomes. Centers Health Care.

Centers Health Care provides rehabilitation, skilled nursing and long-term care for people with a wide range of needs. Whether someone is recovering from surgery, managing an illness or simply needs more support than can be provided at home, our staff is there to help.

The goal is not exactly the same for everyone. It may be returning home, becoming stronger, staying independent or simply feeling better and more comfortable from one day to the next. There will be progress, setbacks and difficult days along the way. Our job is to be there through all of it, and to help each patient or resident get as far as he or she can.

Sometimes that progress comes in large steps. More often, it comes in small ones. Either way, every step matters.

Our Steps to Home series follows patients through rehabilitation and the journey from hospital to home:
