Mardi Gras 2022 at Northern Riverview

The residents and staff at Northern Riverview in Haverstraw rang in March 2022 with an exciting Mardi Gras celebration. Lori Silverstein and her Activities Team got masks for everyone, including her fellow colleagues, plus the facility played New Orleans-style jazz music and everyone was treated to French vanilla ice cream. The 180-bed skilled nursing facility on Route 9 doesn’t miss a celebration and the residents want nothing more than to be happy. Celebrating Mardi Gras has a fascinating history. While in France, it can be traced as far back as the 17th and 18th centuries, Mardi Gras In America is a 325-year-old event that’s celebrated in different ways the world over. Mardi Gras begins on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany, the Three Kings Day, and culminates on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lenten sacrifices and fasting of the Lenten season.
