In early December, a real show of love and emotions from a patient to a therapist took place at Northern Metropolitan Healthcare in Monsey, New York. Resident Shifra Gersternblit, 79, originally from Brooklyn, New York, has been at the five-star 120-bed skilled nursing facility for two years, and her diagnosis with a progressive brain disorder makes her very fearful and resistant to any kind of rehabilitation approach, also making it difficult to build rapport with therapists. This was until one therapist who has been at the facility for only seven months, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Marcy Zebrowky, started working with Shifra and it all started changing for the positive. Now after many treatment sessions, Ms. Gersternblit finally was able to engage in therapy. Seen here just this past week, the personal connection between therapist and patient was obviously mutual after Marcy offered Shifra a hug. News 12 Hudson Valley
