Centenarian Celebrations at Northern Riverview
The ever popular and legendary Northern Riverview resident Mr. Jack Baum turned 100 years young on January 16 at the 180-bed skilled nursing facility on Route 9W in Haverstraw, but two days prior, a big and beautiful 100th birthday celebration took place, thanks to Recreation Director Lori Silverstein and her team. At the celebration, 4th floor residents, along with Jack’s niece and nephew, joined in celebrating his birthday with a party and cake. Unfortunately, his loving wife Ruth and daughter Audrey couldn’t be there, but Jack thought about them. Jack has a wonderful sense of humor and he reacted in disbelief when turning 100 was brought up. “I never thought when I came to this country that I would be 100 someday,” said Jack. A sergeant in the Korean War, Jack is still able to walk without a walker or wheelchair, but he requires some assistance unsurprisingly. What’s equally amazing is that Jack can still read without glasses. These days, when walking into his room at Northern Riverview, one is certainly to be greeted with a warm smile, and a “oh hellloooo!”!
