Retirement Celebration for Nurse Kathy Jallow at Corning Center

The staff and residents at Corning Center on East First Avenue in Corning wished a happy retirement to Nurse Kathy Jallow with a big sendoff lunch, cake, and flowers on August 31st. Known as “Mom” throughout the 120-bed skilled nursing facility, an excited and moved Nurse Jallow cared for residents and patients for 44 years and five months, and without saying, Kathy was highly well-loved. Ms. Jallow was there when the building first opened its doors, long before becoming a Centers Health Care location.

A tearful but proud Recreation Director Shannon Robertson said of her, “Kathy is kind, compassionate, and empathetic to all those she meets. She has been dedicated to her work and now whatever you do Mrs. Kathy, enjoy every moment because you definitely deserve it.”

“I will miss everyone, both my residents and colleagues alike,\" says Jallow. \"I am hoping for the new nurses that come in that they have that compassion to do this job just like how I was trained back then. This is a people business, a hard job, and not everyone is cut out for it. You need that compassion so I’m hoping these young nurses will have that.\"

Asking what she will do next after her current rest and relaxation period, Kathy plans to travel to Gambia in Africa where she and her husband already have a place, plus traveling out west, perhaps traveling to Florida, and Pennsylvania and even joining her sister on shopping trips.

“I will miss what I did but I felt it was time to move on. In my heart, I hope I made an impact in many people’s lives,” said Kathy.
