Richmond Center Resident is One of Thirteen 2017 Finalists to Win the “Art From the Heart” Statewide Art Competition

Everyone throughout the Richmond Center on Tompkins Avenue knows what a sincere person 33-year old Binny Thomas is and what’s more is his talent as an artist is nothing less that extraordinary. Earlier this year, the three-year Richmond Center resident entered an annual statewide art competition called, “Art From the Heart”establishing Binny as a force to be reckoned with. His piece, Sunset Over the Pacific became one of only 13 works of art selected from 105 submissions this year.
On behalf of the Foundation for Quality Care (FQC), 72-member New York State Health Facilities Association/New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSHFA/NYSCAL) facilities took part in this the 13th annual competition and entries received were from every NYSHFA/NYSCAL district. Individuals who submitted work and were not chosen as finalists, all received a certificate of recognition. The “Art From the Heart” program was launched as a way to honor the vibrant contributions and creative spirit of residents.
“I find the art of putting color to canvas freeing and opens my thoughts to the endless possibilities this universe has to offer,” said Binny. “Allowing other people to genuinely appreciate my art is a gratifying experience. I hope my artwork can make another person feel the majestic power and the infinite experiences that each glance at the picture can have.”
Binny’s piece is one of four other winners to be selected from residents at various Centers Health Care family of skilled nursing facilities throughout the state and the only winner from New York City.
“We are all so very proud of Binny’s accomplishments and being chosen a winner of the 2017 Art From the Heart competition,” said Philip Buchsbaum, Administrator of the Richmond Center. “I love the Sunset Over the Pacific piece, it’s art that you come away with the WOW factor.”
The 13 winning pieces will be included in the 2018 NYSHFA/NYSCAL wall calendar.
