The Derusha Couple
In addition to February being heart month, it’s also love month because of Valentine’s Day. This is a perfect example of that. 79-year-old Washington Center and Argyle, New York, resident Ellen Derusha is always visited by her husband Zeb at the State Route 40 skilled nursing facility. They have been married for 61 years. Zeb, a lifelong farmer, never misses a day and knows the importance of visiting his longtime love. The story goes that the two married early in the morning, at 7 a.m. on December 7, 1962, due to his farming practice. By 9 am, Ellen was also back on the farm, driving their tractor to the barn. The two have four children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Zeb’s advice for a long, happy marriage is to “never go to bed mad and always kiss each other goodbye.”
