Mr. Serenkin was admitted to Richmond Center to recover from a severe Functional Neurological Disorder. He had experienced motor dysfunction, seizures, vision and speech difficulties, and episodes of paralysis.
The team recognized that his recovery would require a complete team effort. Neuropsychologists, physical, occupational and speech therapists, social workers, dietitians, recreational specialists—all would be involved in his recovery.
Together, they taught him how to walk, talk, and function again, rebuilding his life from the ground up. The goal: give him back a measure of independence.
"I’m not going to say it was easy, but nothing worth doing is. And today, I live at Richmond Center, upstairs, on my own. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to get a little help from your friends."
