5 Easy Slow-Cooker Recipes

When it comes to making meals that don’t require much prep time, it’s easy to overlook the trusty Crockpot, aka slow cooker, but there’s something to be said for letting your meals cook while you’re on the go and then not only having a meal ready to eat at dinner time, but you can also have leftovers for another one or two meals as well.

Centers Health Care has a look at five easy slow-cooker recipes—called “dump recipes”—to try to work into your rotation.

  1. Baked Ziti

You probably don’t think of baked ziti as a slow-cooker recipe, but just put the pasta (uncooked) in with sauce, ricotta, and mozzarella and this dish can be cooked and ready in about an hour on the highest setting.

  1. Beef and Broccoli

Skip ordering takeout from your go-to Chinese restaurant and prepare beef and broccoli on your own. Use beef broth, soy sauce, and other items listed here to go with your broccoli and thinly sliced chuck roast.

  1. Beef Brisket

For a Southern cooking experience, make a simple and easy brisket. All you need is the brisket itself, dry onion soup mix, garlic powder, brown sugar, and chili sauce. After eight or 10 hours of cooking on low, slice and enjoy!

  1. Spinach and Cheese Tortellini

Another pasta dish that’s easier than it looks is this spinach and cheese tortellini. Use either fresh tortellini or let your frozen ones thaw before adding to the pot. Then add sauce, water, spinach, and mozzarella. Cook on high for an hour, and voila!

  1. Chicken and Shrimp Gumbo

Get a taste of Cajun country with this easy Crockpot recipe. Add chicken, red peppers, tomato, onion, celery, and spices into the pot and let it cook for six hours on low. If you’re going to add shrimp, do so only about three minutes before the cooking time is up.
