The key when buying used items is knowing when to buy used. While you may be skeptical of buying used clothes, furniture, or even a used car, there are many other items where there aren’t as many potential drawbacks and you can end up saving big.

Centers Health Care has a look at six items that you might be better off buying used.

  1. Technology

This is a great way to save, but you’ll want to make sure you’re buying fully refurbished devices from either a licensed retailer or direct from the manufacturer, such as Apple or Samsung. Mobile phones, tablets, and computers can offer significant savings, but if you buy from a private seller, you can’t be sure that all of the data (and potentially malware) were removed and wiped clean before it was sold again.

  1. Hand Tools

Hand tools are not only durable, there’s also a good chance that ones made 20, 30, or more years ago are of better quality than you can buy today. These are popular finds at flea markets, garage sales, and especially estate sales.

  1. Office Furniture

With so many offices downsizing due to more staff working from home permanently, plenty of office furniture needs a new home. The website www.cortfunitureoutlet.com has a big online display.

  1. Baby Items

Since babies grow so quickly, many items get little use before they grow out of them—whether it’s clothes, toys, or things like bouncy chairs or bassinets. One thing you shouldn’t buy used, however, are car seats because they have expiration dates and you don’t know whether they were damaged or tampered with.

  1. Fitness Equipment

Like hand tools, fitness equipment doesn’t really show signs of age. Garage sales and sites like Craig’s List or Facebook Marketplace are the way to go here.

  1. Gift Cards

Many people get gift cards to places they’ll never use. If they don’t re-gift them, they can sell them to websites like Gift Card Bin and Gift Card Granny. These sites then re-sell the cards at a discounted rate.
