Essex Center Edd Turns 100

Mr. John J. Edd, a resident at Essex Center on Park Street in Elizabethtown, was thrown a big 100th birthday bash by the facility’s Recreation Department on his actual 100th birthday, May 16, 2021. The celebration with staff and friends from his unit, along with a big birthday cake, was enjoyed by all. John’s family, including his wife and nephew, took him into the community for the next two days. From the New York City borough of Staten Island, New York, Mr. Edd used to load and unload trucks for a living. He has been married to his wife for nearly 50 wonderful years, he says. John loves the outdoors and used to love to camp. Although his hearing and eyesight is very minimal these days, John is still walking today, through the Essex Center courtyard and down the hallways, everyone at Essex Center says that John. J. Edd is very sociable and a delight to be around. Luckily never having COVID-19, he was first admitted to Essex Center in October 2018 and then readmitted once more in January 2019.

Care. Support. Positive Outcomes. Centers Health Care.
Centers Health Care provides rehabilitation, skilled nursing and long-term care for people with a wide range of needs. Whether someone is recovering from surgery, managing an illness or simply needs more support than can be provided at home, our staff is there to help.
The goal is not exactly the same for everyone. It may be returning home, becoming stronger, staying independent or simply feeling better and more comfortable from one day to the next. There will be progress, setbacks and difficult days along the way. Our job is to be there through all of it, and to help each patient or resident get as far as he or she can.
Sometimes that progress comes in large steps. More often, it comes in small ones. Either way, every step matters.
Our Steps to Home series follows patients through rehabilitation and the journey from hospital to home:
