Throughout the country, National Nurses Week (May 6 – May 12) is being observed at many healthcare institutions, so right here in Brooklyn, Bushwick Center on Sheffield Avenue and Centers Health Care are recognizing Director of Nursing Ms. Kelly Moteiro, MS RN DNS. Kelly is a highly accomplished registered nurse who has her Master’s degree in nursing leadership from Stony Brook University. Her implementation of patient-centered care modules in skilled nursing facilities has improved patient outcomes while providing exceptional resident care.

For the past 16 years, Ms. Moteiro has been Director of Nursing. In this role, Kelly is an expert in government regulations, and mentoring, and is trained on the best practices and trends in healthcare. As a leader and coach, Kelly prides herself on being part of the team and ensuring staffing coverage is always upheld. Her can-do attitude and roll-up-your-sleeves approach are infectious, so she rarely has any issues with staffing retention. Kelly started in nursing homes at 19 years old, first as a Certified Nursing Assistant, later as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and then as a Registered Nurse.

Kelly lives in Lake Ronkonkoma on Long Island with her husband Rui. Their daughter Serena, 22, lives in Brooklyn and is a Graduate Student in Speech Pathology at Touro. Brooklyn Paper

Care. Support. Positive Outcomes. Centers Health Care.

Centers Health Care provides rehabilitation, skilled nursing and long-term care for people with a wide range of needs. Whether someone is recovering from surgery, managing an illness or simply needs more support than can be provided at home, our staff is there to help.

The goal is not exactly the same for everyone. It may be returning home, becoming stronger, staying independent or simply feeling better and more comfortable from one day to the next. There will be progress, setbacks and difficult days along the way. Our job is to be there through all of it, and to help each patient or resident get as far as he or she can.

Sometimes that progress comes in large steps. More often, it comes in small ones. Either way, every step matters.

Our Steps to Home series follows patients through rehabilitation and the journey from hospital to home:
