Centers Health Care’s “Care That Moves You” Seen Throughout NYC Region

For seniors to live life better both physically and psychologically, Centers Health Care a leading network of skilled nursing facilities in the northeast based in The Bronnx, designed a new initiative this summer for seniors and others at their many skilled nursing facilities and the momentum has been growing. As reported in the August 2nd Across New York Patch, the program helps residents increase their rehab recovery, it was also created to help diminish loneliness and post-Covid-19 isolation. Being called, “Care That Moves You”, word-of-mouth throughout Centers Health Care’s 40-plus facilities in the state and throughout social media channels, has also been seen here throughout the tri-state region at their facilities within the five boroughs, as well as on Long Island, Westchester and Rockland counties. In fact, “Care That Moves You” had a special day, August 2, 2023, and this was the date when the facilities offered many “movement” fun and exercises stemming from the facilities’ activities departments for both residents and staff.

\"This is a community initiative. We invite all New Yorkers to get moving and those who are work-from-home status, it’s time for you to get up and move too\", said Steve Carr, Chief Sales Officer. \"Movement is good for your health, mentally, physically, and emotionally, plus it also keeps you connected to the people around you. Moving also eliminates the idea of isolation and loneliness so we are also asking all Centers employees to forward an email asking their friends and families to post a video.\"

At Beth Abraham Center, the 448-bed skilled nursing facility on Allerton Avenue in the Bronx, residents there took part on that day in a number of fun Zumba sessions. Zumba is a fun, high-energy workout experience that keeps residents, including staff, excited to exercise. Beth Abraham Center seniors had a great time on Care That Moves You day, wanting more Zumba dance fitness sessions.

On 10th Avenue in Brooklyn at Boro Park Center, across from Maimonides Hospital, residents and staff at the 504-bed skilled nursing facility had a great time on August 2 at a DuDance Party, where they included a photo booth, a fun BBQ party, but the day was all about getting up and dancing together.

Other facilities, such as Richmond Center on Tompkins Avenue on Staten Island, enjoyed that day where the facility offered a full menu of events, including Zumba, for both residents and staff. At Luxor at Mills Pond in St. James on Long Island, residents had a great time stretching to music, and at Amsterdam Nursing Home on Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan, residents, staff, and visitors did their movement to 80’s music outside on their patio. Finally, at Triboro Center on Teller Avenue in the Bronx, residents at the 405-bed skilled nursing facility did some fun stretching exercises with staff and later took “Care That Moves You” outdoors at a fun carnival on their grounds where the fun of moving is the norm.
