STATEN ISLAND, NY (Sept. 8, 2016) –Richmond Center for Rehabilitation and Specialty Health Care, a 300-bed facility that joined the Centers Health Care family only four years ago, has earned an overall 4-star facility rating by Medicare in their comparison of more than 15,000 Medicare- and Medicaid-participating nursing homes. Located on Tompkins Avenue in Staten Island and originally known at St. Elizabeth’s, Richmond Center is fully committed to the Staten Island community by offering the broadest range of services available under one roof on Staten Island. The services provided by Richmond Center include adult day health care, world class physical, occupational and speech therapy, skilled nursing and, what is rapidly becoming, one of the finest facilities in the Northeast for the treatment of neuro-behavior disorders.
"This 4-star rating surely demonstrates the dedication from the entire staff at Richmond Center," said Kenny Rozenberg, CEO of Centers Health Care, the largest post-acute health care continuum in New York. "When Richmond Center joined the Centers Health Care family, we knew we had the start of something special. Being recognized as a 4-star facility proves we were right. Now we start working toward a 5-star rating by continuing to provide the people of Staten Island with the highest quality short and long-term health care available."
In addition to receiving impressive scores in the staffing and health inspection categories, Richmond Center also received high scores for improvements in services to short and long-term residents:
- Richmond Center scored 12-points higher than the national average for short-term residents who demonstrate that they are making improvements in function.
- Richmond Center lowered their re-hospitalization rate to only 8.7% of all short-term residents – 25% better than the national average.
- Richmond Center earned a rating 57% lower than the national average for long-term residents who report moderate to severe pain
- The Centers score for long-term residents who need help with daily activities was 26% lower than the national average.
Richmond Center’s scores above were also better than the New York State average in their respective categories.
"These rankings are a true testament about how we as a Center care deeply about providing our residents with the best of everything. And that includes making the investment necessary to offer both high quality and specialty care" said Philip Buchsbaum, LNHA, Administrator of Richmond Center for Rehabilitation and Specialty Health Care. "The Centers Health Care model is a one-to-one resident approach. Everyone here chose to put their faith in Richmond Center and to earn that faith everyday with top notch services and professional personalized care."
In addition to the Adult Day Health Care facility, which is designed to provide for the needs of those suffering from mental illness often associated with HIV/AIDS, Richmond Center also offers a second Adult Day Care social program as well as a state-of-the-art 28-bed ventilator unit. The Richmond Center campus includes the former Bayley Seton Hospital building as well, now home to the Neurobehavioral Recovery Unit.
Today Richmond Center is in the final stages of an extensive renovation featuring new resident rooms and common areas, and a brand new, industry-leading physical therapy suite just opened with the very latest in equipment and protocols. A fleet of custom outfitted vans now transports day care members, carries residents to outside medical appointments or on scheduled outings, and picks up resident’s family memberswho wish to visit.
