Schenectady Center on Altamont Avenue has become the first and only skilled nursing facility to be Heart Failure Certified by the American Heart Association (AHA).

The facility’s long-time physician, Dr. Ali Y. Mirza, an internist in Schenectady who is also affiliated with Ellis Hospital, has been working closely with the AHA in order to offer top-level cardiac care at the 240-bed skilled nursing facility to provide their residents with various heart issues. On February 16, 2023, the certification was granted. Schenectady Center’s Administrator Marty Deslauriers has backed Dr. Mirza every step of the way as he leads the charge about resident health and safety, which are always first and foremost the top priorities at Schenectady Center. Dr. Mirza’s vision of offering this clinical expertise and service to the people of Schenectady is now a reality.

This newly certified heart failure program is now truly benefiting so many of Dr. Mirza’s patients who suffer from heart disease due to diabetes, obesity, smoking, and more.
