Don Torrio

Former Resident at Martine Center
profile-cover

Suffering from end-stage pancreatic cancer, Mr. Torrio was in the process of being discharged from the hospital. His family was concerned that they were unequipped to care for him at home. They contacted our liaison, who smoothed his transition to Martine Center.

Our medical team immediately designed a plan to control and relieve any pain Mr. Torrio was experiencing. Our priority was making him comfortable. Our social workers made sure to share all treatment options with both Mr. Torrio and with his family. The entire team guided the family through feelings of sadness, fear, anger, and acceptance.

“My father was a good, honest, and gentle man, and deserved all the compassion in the world. Losing him was difficult, but the team at Martine Center was wonderful. They alleviated his pain, and treated him with dignity.”
