Happy Purim from Northern Riverview
You know when spring is around the corner, holidays such as St. Patrick’s Day, Purim, Passover, and Easter start making their way into people’s lives. Purim, a 5th-century Jewish holiday commemorating the Jewish people’s saving from annihilation at the hands of an official of the Achaemenid Empire, kicked off the spring holidays first in 2023, and Northern Riverview in Haverstraw had so much happening on that holiday, which was March 6-7. The 180-bed skilled nursing facility started its Purim events on March 7 with the singing of a Purim song over the loudspeaker, and then later in the morning, the recreation team, led by director Lori Silverstein, distributed a Purim coloring sheet to all of the residents. In the afternoon, the facility welcomed Rabbi Friedman from the Chabad of Monsey, who wore a festive clown wig (see photo). He visited with some of the residents and discussed the meaning of Purim while offering a sweet treat. During bingo, the facility gave the residents delicious raspberry hamantaschen, homemade by their very own Chef Rob. Hamantaschen are tasty triangular cookies traditionally filled with either apricot, raspberry, or strawberry filling, and they are the “unofficial treat” of the Purim holiday.
