Amsterdam Nursing Home residents, staff welcome back live music

It’s been a long time coming and it seems like a century since live music was seen and heard at Amsterdam Nursing Home, all due to COVID-19. So what better time to bring back live music than with a July 4th concert on the patio of this large 409-bed nursing and rehabilitation center on Amsterdam Ave. in Northern Manhattan. New York City guitarist and singer Richard Frank, who has been in the music scene for more than 55 years and played with the likes of Patti Labelle, Neil Diamond, Bette Midler, Barry Manilow and Paul Anka, played all kinds of great classics—from standards, rock and R&B to disco, oldies, folk, blues and country—for the audience sing-along.

“The smiles on their faces when Richard started his show were unmistakable,” said Jay Virella, therapeutic recreation director at Amsterdam Nursing Home. “Music continues to be the great healer.”
