Northern Riverview Residents Remember 9/11 with Origami Crane Art and Documentary Screening

During the reading of the names broadcasted from the World Trade Center site on the morning of September 11, 2023, residents closer to home at Northern Riverview in Haverstraw on Route 9W wanted to give their thoughts about what that tragic day has meant to them now that 22 years have passed. It was surely an emotional exercise for the residents as they told stories of where they were and what they were doing on that tragic day. The Recreation Department, headed by Director Lori Silverstein, had the residents paint an origami crane and then write their own messages with their picture. In Japanese culture, cranes are mystical animals that symbolize long life and healing. Lori and the team took all of the paintings and placed them on a wall in one of the big day rooms. Later in the day, the residents watched the documentary “9/11 20 Years Later.”
